Hi everybody, again thanks for the comments/votes on my last upload always appreciated.

After a midweek break in Chard, Somerset we decided to take the coast road home and stopped off at the Isle of Portland. Within seconds of parking up at the top of the Isle near HMP Verne I spotted a Whitethroat in a bush alongside the car. As soon as I set up my camera I was distracted by a yellow flash passing me and landing in a tree close by.

It was only a couple of weeks ago I was lamenting to Mossyoak & Maiwand that I had not seen a Yellowhammer in years (over twenty to be precise), when I was presented with this superb specimen posing in a tree and not too worried about my presence there. I spent quite a time just clicking away as he flitted from tree to bush to post as my dear wife snoozed in the car nearby.

V1 – Yellowhammer singing away at the top of a tree with the sun bringing out his colours beautifully.

V2 - Yellowhammer posing on a nearby prison fence post on profile, obviously seen the prisoners doing it I think. This clearly shows his colouring off well I think.

No doubt you will let me know what you think; though view large for the full effect.

Cheers
Paul

Very, very envious of this sighting and these two superb captures Paul -LOL!! Wonderful poses, detail and colours. Love V1 for the fact the bird is in full song and V2 for the great side-on view and plumage patterning/tones.
