As you have given a fair proportion of the picture to the background, it may have been better to reduce the aperture setting to give a better depth of field to bring the background into focus. The scene seems to have enough light to cope with a smaller aperture. By setting the correct 'Hyperfocal length' would ensure that the dog in the foreground and the background are within the depth of field.
