40 years ago today Tony and I came back from our honeymoon and went to Pauline and Dave's wedding. Two weeks earlier Dave had been the photographer for our wedding. We met them both at college. Tony and Dave both had motorbikes and were studying maths. Pauline and I were both studying to be primary school teachers and we shared a room in the second year. We have been close friends through the years of raising our families and have supported each other through tough times. There's only one problem with our friendship now - they moved to Australia, and so its harder keeping in touch ![]()

This is one of my Ruby Wedding roses.
I'm never happy working with red flowers - the camera never seems to get the colour right and I'm never happy with the colour on the monitor - so this is version 3 of trying to get the colours as I wanted them. I used just 1 rose, and layered a section of it for the background. I also wanted it small, so have put a deep black border around it and given it a black background.
It will not be to the liking of many, but hey ho, I took all evening to sort it last night and it would be good to get it up on their anniversary, bearing in mind that it is 16:35 there already ![]()

Ah bless you Lillian, it must be so hard to miss out on those special times. My parents reached 50 years together, but Tony's Dad died before they reached 40. On our 40th anniversary I had great joy in remembering everything we did at my Mum and Dad's celebration. We even had the same friend make and decorate the cake for us ![]()

Many thanks for your comment and especially for your much sought after User Award - I did not for one minute think that this would get awarded - I'm well chuffed as they say ![]()

Thanks Moira - I used just the one rose, but added a part of it as a layer for the background ![]()
Perfect use of layers, it doesn't look like one
. A deep sumptuous, velvet red.... ruby red in fact...doh! Excellent work, Helen.
Dave
Congratulations to everyone! This is rather lovely, like textured silk.
Moira
I'm never happy trying to photograph red flowers, either, and unless I reduce the saturation they seem to lose all detail
But this is a super presentation here, Helen, and a beautiful story, too ![]()
