Serendipity is when one finds something that one was not expecting to find. In the simplest of words, it means a "happy accident"
It is one of Moira's favourite words, and she comes to mind whenever I read it
So what was I not expecting to find?
The light attracted me to the barbed wire, which I have photographed before but I was not anticipating such beautiful shadows.
Enjoy - they gave me much pleasure and I hope you find them beautiful too.
Thanks for looking
Well spotted. A good idea.
Serendipity means not just the knack for finding happy accidents, you also need to be able to recognise their worth...
Thanks for this, it's beautiful - twisting, dancing shadows behind the evil spikes, shadows with a life of their own.
Thanks Paul and Moira - glad you like it Moira and I've linked the definition to its source now - and I agree, valuing what you find is another story
brilliant light and shadows helen love the title a real cracker nice one
How lovely - well seen. I love the shadows and textures.
Well spotted Helen, nice shadows indeed, makes the spikes look fearsome.. Peter
Some beautiful new work Helen!
Thanks Ann, Malc, Peter and Rende
Happy accidents seems to sum up my photography with a lot of luck thrown in, this is well spotted rather than an accident I think. - gary
A fine composition using the barbed wire and the shadows, with a much darker emotional feel than your last few uploads. Excellent and well seen. A
Thanks Arthur. For me barbed wire evokes very dark and disturbing feelings - so it was good to find some beauty along with the beast
shadows and green mold! love it!
Serendipity-- one of those too big for m words........ LOL!
It gave me an ominous feeling at first, barbed wire is such a nasty was of erecting a barrier, but great for photography. The shadows look like spiders and leggy insects. I love moments of serendipity, but hate it when I realise there was far more potential than I managed to capture at the time, and that time has gone.
You certainly have the knack of making an ordinary subject look interesting and attractive, Helen Love the tones and textures in the wood behind and the shadows. Excellent work
Thanks Pamela and Trev
The shadows are so much more interesting than the real thing. A lovely find Helen and so nice you thought to capture it..........Sandy
shadows is not something I have considered when taking piccies but I can see what you mean, they do make a fine picture
Indeed Helen the shadows make the shot and of course the great texture you have retained in the wood click
Excellent capture Helen, nice bold shadows against nice textured wood.
Fascinating shadows, Helen. I am afraid my first thought was of concentration camps - there have been some very powerful photos recently of those and barbed wire always looks so menacing.
Thanks Sandy, Ann, Graham, Tammy, Shell and Christina

I have to say that barbed wire does not have good associations for me either Christina
Hi Helen, this is a strong image for me and very creative. I think its what we photographers do so well in seeing an image. I love the bg colours and of course those amazing shadows. Well done and have my UA for the week.
A good use of shadows and textures
Thanks Tony and Peter for your comments
.........and many thanks to Tony for his User Award - much appreciated
Great capture, shadows and textures.
A convoluted dance of shadows and sharps.
I'm a sucker for shadows and you've got some good ones here, Helen. Good find
the wooden background really gives this image real depth, cracking shot
Serendipity alone doesn't produce these great shots Helen, you have know when you've found it, great image.
Another fine observation Helen - great shadows against the texture of the bg.
You find such wonderful things in shots. Moira
Many thanks Joline, Andrew, Dave, Adria, Brian and Moira
Oh, Helen, we can always count on you to come up with something very striking and different! This one is no exception! Excellent capture!
Just been notified of a Mark's User Award - many thanks Mark - I'm delighted to receive it
