A mean and moody look here Matt.
You look like a rugby player !!
Good shot.
(On second thoughts, your ears are too flat to be a rugby player.
All the ones I see have cauliflower ears !!)
Mick.

Now I had the same thoughts as Mick - rugby player but then the ear inconsistency... but perhaps you are a rugby player... The image caught my eye and you're a brave man to post an sp...

Mick & Mike, no I am not a rugby player I think maybe it is just the shirt, which incidentally is a Derby County sweat shirt. Loren not sure about getting it how I want, I struggle a bit with sp's but I will keep trying.

You are so brave posting another sp! You do look very much like a rugby player as others have said. Perhaps I should point out it isn't a requirement of the sport that you should have cauliflower ears!! I married a rugby player and I'm pleased to report his ears are just fine - pity about the damage to hips and knees though Tongue

It is nice to put a face to a name however on this occasion...... In all seriousness, a rather fine and distinguished looking portrait indeed.

I have often try to sit for a portrait, or on the odd occasion attempt a self portrait, but all to often It has come up looking like an image depicted in a bad CCTV shot for Crime Stoppers.

Regards Nathan

Well Matt, you got a shed load more hair than me LOL... but my beard is more developed Wink

Not bad at all. Would like to see a better defined shadow of your nose rather than putting all your cheek into shade...

Nothing wrong with this SP Matt - it makes a change to see a man taking photos of himself. Great light and detail.

Great self portrait - good choice of top matching your eyes!
You've captured every line of life so well.
I'm afraid if it were me, I'd be photoshopping out a few bits!

Yes,I think it was the shirt responsible for my comment Matt.
And my sincere sympathy to you that it is a Derby County shirt !!

Matt, I've said it before and I'll say it again: you have a great face for portraiture and I'm glad you doing more sp's. You've taken this so well...the light, the angle, the pose, the expression...bravo Smile

I just read the comments...lol...so fun to read Grin Yeah, you do look like a rugby player here...but you're a scientist, aren't you?

Male portraits with the assumed single light source coming from the right always work a treat for me and in this case very much so. Very nicely framed and with the slight tilt to the head to keep the eyes off horizontal together with the very important catch-lights in the eyes being in just the right place - a self-portrait of the finest order that may also work equally well in mono.

Dave.
