This is one that I keep going back to. A grab shot, in very harsh light. I sprinted to get it, a moment later she was gone.
Here is the third attempt – this was the consensus favourite crop with previous uploads, but I have been back to scratch and reworked the b&w conversion.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

I like the symmetry and detail of the building - I also like the contrast between the austere dark background and the sunny informal capture of the girl and the dog ![]()

Quote: I wish the three miners were a little more dominant in the image. Perhaps a selective shadow/highlight adjustment to that area.
That area has had a lot of work! The figures appear on a very dark printed panel, I isolated that area and worked on it to get some detail visible, but didn't want to push it too far.

That really is the effect that I was aiming for, thanks for noticing.
Cheers everyone,
Moira
I would have fallen over in my rush
well captured as always Moira
This is excellent, although my personal choice would be a tighter crop. Love the contrasts, great work
You could come up with so many crop versions of this. I do like your original v1 where you see more detail of the miners, but this one works with the windows as a frame.

My first upload of this, here, was a tighter crop with wider views as variants.
I have to say that I now prefer the more detached view as above.
Thanks everyone,
Moira
I love the way she is standing. Excellent grab shot
Thanks so much Matt! I was about to log off, I'm in school this afternoon - glad I stayed on a few minutes more.

A superb gem to find this morning Moira - what a belter this is.
When it comes to which is better of the prior upload or this - for me it's a no-brainer. This one wins hands down.
The symmetry works perfectly here - the girl and her dog break the calm of that symmetry. The figures in the door are just right - any brighter and they would have been too prominent and taken attention away from the main characters.
I cannot imagine this cropped down.
Anne
The figures in the doorway are very lifelike Moira, the girl looks strangely unnerved but the dog is relaxed and no worries.
An image to look at for some time and enjoy.

Nice comp seeing both windows, your sprint was well worth it, nice capture on the tilting girl,
John
An excellent bit of re-working Moira - wonderful light and a great quality mono ![]()

Just home from school, thank you Anne for a very pleasant surprise to come home to, and thanks everyone else for your votes and comments.
Oh and yes, I love broken symmetry.
Moira
they are getting better and better. like the tones here.
An excellent juxtaposition, really well spotted and taken. Love it.
Andy
Very Frankenesque is this wonderful opportunistic candid/street shot, works well in mono
