Vulture numbers are declining due to the traditional medicine trade. It is believed that they find their food with clairvoyant ability, and so a piece of vulture brain is believed to help one win the Lottery ! This bird was rescued from a man who was dragging him down the road still in a trap on his way to sell him to a witch doctor, known as Traditional Healers these days Smile
Thanx so much for all the votes and comments on my sleepy owl yesterday !

The sooner we educate these people the better Herman, but I doubt that will change matters, take the chinese and tigers for example or the japanese and sharks or whales! ......Not wishing to sound racist BTW. All we can do as wildlife photographers is try and highlight the plight of all these creatures that are taken from the wild to supply such nonsensical beliefs! Love the way this superb bird is displaying it's feathers in V2.....Gets my UA, not so much for the photography, but more because you've highlighted another wildlife problem which I was unaware of, well done!

A beautiful bird Herman. He looks a bit grumpy, did you wake him up? I think I have said before, I am very fond of vultures, they were my back fence neighbours in Guine-Bissau, in fact I think they were stalkers. There they are perfectly safe as they are believed to be the souls of ancestors.

Didn't realise vulture numbers were declining, always thought they were one of natures great survivors.

Vulture sits on a pile of the rot (horse probably decaying), and he slowly eats it. Near jumps a little lamb.
- Sir, why are you eating this mess?
Vulture looked up from his meal and looked at the lamb, cleared his throat and continued eating.
Petty continues: - Excuse me, Mr Vulture, but you are eating feces! Just look at me, I'm fresh and delicious! You would have killed me, and you could have got quite good meal.
Vulture:  - My dear young man, I understand you perfectly, you have a lot of the zeal and ambition... but this is the classic!!!!Grin
Good set, HermanSmile

I have to agree with comments already posted about how we view animals and birds and try to put an end to the practice of killing them for medicinal and other purposes.
Three fine shots of this vulture and as vultures go this one is not unattractive visually, and you have captured him in an interesting pose with wings spread: and I do like your close-up inspection portrait shot at V 3.
