Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar. From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the highest time of the kingdom, between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 13,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2230 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day. The sunsets are spectacular and you don't normally have to wait until the cows come home to capture one!! TongueGrin

Handheld so had to go to ISO400, 1/60s, f5.6 @160mm.

It's a really well composed scene with lots of interest from the herd to the temple and that great sunset. The central placement of the temple works well with it's symmetrical shape and the darker trees below it help guide the eye into the scene. All those layers give lots of depth thanks to your choice of an elevated PoV.
Being slightly picky, hand holding at 160mm and 1/60 is a big ask for anyone's technique and the image is soft but I can't see how your could have improved this without a tripod. Closing down to f/5.6 was a good move as you get more sharpness out of the 70-200 f/4 lens optics but more than that and you would have needed to crank up your ISO to 800 which is where the 7D starts to suffer from noise in a noticeable way. As ever going on trips with non-photographers means all sorts of compromises must be made... as I know only too well!!! GrinGrin

There is so much in this capture it's nearly overwhelming for a mere mortal like myself. Wink

Very well taken.

OMG Dave, just look at the awards!!! A magical scene of timelessness well captured, lovely diminishing light, colours & the dusty ambience Smile

That is one very enviable shot Dave and worthy of all the accolades and more.

I haven't got to grips with user awards yet but if I had I would return your compliment ( many thanks) here if I had. Top notch !
