I can't help sympathising re the problems you have encountered with this shot and i have to ask the question why did n't you wait until the sun had dropped a little bit lower ?
It is a fantastic composition and image and for all that it could have been just a bit better I still think it is worthy of praise.
Good one !
There is another excellent picture to be had here by cropping to leave only the three boats on the right and the distant object.
