This is taken at night. 30s exposure (its so hard to try and get the focus right when you can hardly see anything! Is there a way to do this that I haven't thought of?!)
Comments appreciated as always

how to see in the dark to focus - eat some carrots![]()
worth viewing large, i wish there was just a bit of detail in the side of the engine, but i guess when its dark its dark.
works well all the same.
there are a couple of people on here who specialise in that kind of shot...i think that they use a torch to selectively light the subject through the long exposure...
i really like the effect you've achieved here though where what light there is catches the engines and ground..nice sky to
looks like chilly work to me!

Wonderfully dark and atmospheric. Bruce
Lynn this is beautiful/love the dark moody tones and the lighting is spot on for the photograph.

Thumbnail doesn't do this image justice, it really is a cracking picture, full of atmosphere.
Had a quick read of your CV, interesting job. If you work with children you may be interested in my company's work

The easiest way is to use the distance scale on your lens I think - but I know these aren't always very good on modern lenses.
The dark composition and the subtle light works well Lynn. Great shot.
Doug.
