One of my favourite images from a recent four day holiday in Venice with my beautiful girlfriend, who also turns out to be incredibly patient too ![]()
This was taken on the waterfront near San Marco, looking North-West towards the church of Santa Maria del Salute. A sensational sunset, the colour was incredible, it was simply a case of positioning everything right once I'd found a suitable foreground, and waiting for the elements to come together...

Brilliant! I really love this capture and would love to know how you captured it,
Rich
Hi Guys,
Wasper - 13 seconds or so I think, so yes she had to stand stock still, but leaning against the lamppost helped. Beyond that, Rich - the only technique that's perhaps a little unusual here was that I used a credit card as my ND grad - by rapidly moving the card edge over the middle point in the shot, and gradually higher up towards the sky and upper limit of the photograph, the amount of light coming in over the 13 seconds was consistent in the bottom half of the shot, but held back in the top half, increasingly so through the photograph to ensure the top few pixels register near - darkness, giving the sense of being right on the edge of night.
This long exposure also allowed for the floating light trails through the middle ground, and the star-shaped radiance from the street lights. All in all, there isn't anything ground breaking technique wise, just careful use of lighting control and the right set-up!
Cheers, and thanks for all the votes!

Wonderful shot. Credit card, first time I've heard of one being used as a grad.
You did your revising for this one.Beautiful composition and light exposure.
Are you formally Anhaga.
Tom.
Hi Tom,
Nope not formally Anhaga, it was something I was experimenting with as a name for any business I would set up, but seeing as how I'm fairly well known by name in other areas of life, seems a bit odd not to capitalise on tat so I'm changing everything to just my name...
