Like some of you I thought they were fossils when I first saw them but in fact they are "cakes" of yeast that is apparently used for making rice wine. All I can say is that they must make a heck of a lot of it as this was one of 2 or 3 stalls at Kalimpong market selling them and as you can see there are plenty of them.
So far as I know, the fern imprints are just for decoration.
So there you have it.
