Thanks, yep you are right there LOL. Name changed.

By way just tried my process then used Shadows/Highlights, like it, but set highlight to nil.

Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 vs photomatix
Hi

I do not do much with the RAW files in CS6, just clarify and enhance colour and set white balance. Then get rid of Chromatic Aberr and totally remove sharpening. I then process all 3 RAWs in Nik HDR and go for the Balanced Realistic and tad enhancement of colour again.

I the get rid of noise with Nik Dfine 2. I then play about with sharpening in CS6, even use High Pass Sharpening.

Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 vs photomatix
I use it all the time as it is what I am comfy with to produce an image with depth/colour etc that I want. I use CS6 to enhance and yes shadow and highlight is good but I never bother I Nik, in my mind, Nik produces a far better depth, we can also use the BURN tool etc.

I also use Nik - http://www.niksoftware.com/site/ - to get rid of all noise in image.

Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 vs photomatix
I use Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 with Photoshop CS6, and shoot 3 RAWS using AEB on my Canon. This produces fantastic realistic HDR's and I use this all the time. Have tried others but none has a patch on Nik.

Filters
Like all when I started photography I also purchased Filters from Cokin, ND Grad etc etc, however I found that when using same with my favourite Lens - Canon EFS 17 - 85, at 17 - 25 is it cropped image badly.

Now I use AEB on my Canon 50D and just forget about filters. I use AV and set AEB and timer so that I meter expose, fix camera tightly on tripo and Camera does the business.

Basically one end up with 3 RAW, 1 overexposed, 1 under and 1 as metered.

Then in Photoshop one blends the Underexposed with the metered version and this gives good sky and fore etc.

Thoughts on this ?

Quote: The manual for the camera says only 3, the same as it's been for all the xxD series, the only thing you can do in the Custom functions is change the order in which it brackets (C.FN I-5)

That is what I thought and do, but just wanted to check to see if there was a cunning method to change it.

CANON 50D AEB SETTING
This is apparently in one go, quote " choose 2 stops brighter, then press the set button ( this automatically sets the bracketing to also shoot 2 stops darker).

This is what I do and still only get 3 shots as to me 2 stops darker is 2 stops under measure.

CANON 50D AEB SETTING
I am a user of Photoshop CS4 and as such I have been teaching myself new things via the pucrchase of the book - The Adobe Photoshop CS4 Book by Scott Kelby.

On page 248, he indicates how one can shoot 5 bracketed shots by using the Exposure./AEB bracketing on a Canon 40 and 50D

I use this a lot on my Canon 50D but I can only shoot 3 shots, i.e 1 under, 1 level and 1 over etc and set it as I want.

I cannot see how one can shoot 5, can anyone assist re this.

My site is working well and it would appear that the home server for Clikpic is down again. I am quite fed up with this as I was trying to update my site today.

This is not the first time this has happened.

Canon 50D

Quote: Now that the 50D has been on sale for a month or two, those folk who actually have one, what are your thoughts on the first months or so of ownership?

I am very pleased with it, I am totally a RAW shooter and I often have to crop my images and with there being 15mgp in the image nothing is lost. The sensor cleaning is brill, I frequently change lens and found with my old 30D that the sensor got quite dirty very quickly and just would not clean well.

It is also so simple to use, IT IS BRILL.

50D or 5D decision?
I upgraded from 30D to 50D and also updated from CS2 to CS4. First the res on the Camera is absolute brill with the type of landscape that I perform, crop. I had to wait a week for RAW 5.1 via Adobe to work with my RAW shots ( I always shoot RAW ).

CS4 is absolute brill, the RAW convert allows you to enhance small areas etc and has loads of great tools. CS4 in main is likewise.

I also considered upgrade to 5D, but the thought of changing 3 of my lens proved to much, now I have resolution etc that I wanted and my images are brill when crop and then printed.

I just acquired a 50D upgraded from 30D. It is a fantastic camera and the 15mgpx is superb for my type of photography as this allows for for some very good cropping etc and not losing quality. I also managed to sell my 30D without a problem via ebay.

Only problem is that I am a RAW and HDR man and CS2 does not recognise 50D RAW. I have reg to upgrade to CS4 on 15/10/2008 so hopefully this will be sorted. Canon does supply software that process RAW and one can then convert into TIF and put into CS2.

Well if you like HDR then Photomatix is better, and if you want RAW processing, then I would say DPP is better than the RAW interface that ships with CS2. So now you have the chance to discover the better life that is outside Adobe.

Re this, Photomatix does not even work with these RAW Files, I like to sort the RAW's in Photoshop, I truly think that Photoshop is the best tool for this and I often adjust each RAW before HDR process in Photoshop, which I think betters Photomatix and one gets a better picuure at end.

There is no mention of Flash Exposure bracketing in either hand book.

I was playing as well with 580EX and found that one can use FEB to cover 3 shots by raising it on ETTL. This works but one has got to use the remote control to activate takes as one does not want to touch camera.

I have experimented with 3 RAW's taken this way on Photoshop CS2 HDR merge, and not good, looks like one takes a few experimentals and then shoots on best etc.

HDR Gallery?

Quote: Well,I am one who has been intro'd to HDR through a contact as I was totally fed up with filters cropping my images on a Sigma 10-20 wide lens.

I am experimenting with HDR using Canon Eos 30D and AEB. So far I shoot 3 RAW and process in Photoshop CS2 RAW process then in Photoshop process all 3 images taken at 3 diff sets in HDR.

Result, absolute brill but still needs development in Photoshop in the Levels, Shadow Highlight, Brightness Contrast and Smart Sharp.

Results in none brill situ so far has been absolute fantastic.

Looking forward to catching some real images in same.

Re above, I got out and Captured Tolquhon Castle see my Gallery Photo. Did as per my quote and processed on Photoshop. I did try Photomatix with as well but it did not merge the images proper. I thought that Photoshop was better result.

I have done a few photos on Photomatix by using 1 RAW and copying twice, then alter exposure in the 3 RAW, gender them on Photomatix etc and you get a brill result, save and then touch up in Photoshop. I am quite impressed re this.

Early days and still experimenting.

Super Wide Lenses and ND Grads

Quote: The problem with a wide angle adaptor is that you are restricted in the number of grads you can use (it may even just be one), so the only real solution is to move up to larger filters.

However, there is an alternative - HDR.

I recently bought a 10-20 but do not want to (can't afford to) buy larger filters for it, so whenever I use it I take HDR shots. If you check my portfolio, any shots you see which have been taken with that lens are HDR.

I may buy larger filters at some time, but for now HDR does the trick for me.

Ian

Re this quote from Ian.

Perfectly true, I have found the same prob with Sigma 10-20 lens and Filters, but using AEB to take 3 RAW images and process on Photoshop CS2 cures the need for Filters.

Then process on HDR Merge in Photoshop CS2 gives fantastic results. Still needs sorting in Level, Shadow Highlight, Brightness Contrast and Smart Sharp, result with experiment. Brill.

So far not tested on publishing photo but experimented on various and brill.

Try
