I guess with a focal of 100mm you were at least far away enough to not irritate this fella. I picked up a piece of yard art not knowing there was a hornet's nest inside and my poor index finger got hit 3 times - I had no idea wasp stings could be so painful!

I was at least 3cm. away, Anne! It's a macro lens. I also used ring flash. Perhaps the wasp was too busy scoffing nectar to notice! In my teens a wasp got trapped down my sock. Yaroooooo! Incredible pain.Sad
