I welcome all possible feedback on this one. I really want it to work, but my gut feeling is telling me that it hasn't got a chance. Is the composition too boring? Too much forest? Boring sky?

I was really hoping for some clouds the evening I took this, but unfortunately they werent there to paint the sky for me.

Well I really love the shot JE! The composition is great - I think you've done really well with quite a difficult shot. Great bit of work!

Not far off at all. Probably a bit off the sky as it is featureless as you say, but you can't crop the forest much without loosing some of the buildings. I can accept the dark featureless forest area because it is totally evident that this is late evening with the last vestiges of light.

Hi JE I really do like this as is but am compelled to have a go at a mod. First I corrected the levels as the histogram fell short at the RHS. I then cropped top and bottom to make it more panoramic and focus on the more interesting parts of the scene. Finished off with a touch of unsharp mask.
Hope you like.
Phil

Ok, I uploaded a modification based on your feedback. I have also darkened det upper corners of the sky a bit just to give a little "depth" to it and also to lead the eye towards the castle a bit more.
