Found this ugly thing at the week end, i have not got a clue what it is, i have a inclin that it might transform into a dragonfly but im not sure, so if anybody knows that would be nice to find out what it is. i know the tail end is a little soft but it was in a fairly awkward place ;o) All comments most welcome and thanks for looking

The head end is sharp and very detailed so it doesn't really matter to me the tail is a bit soft. Nice light too.

Looks to me like a Dragonly Larvae, possibly a Broad Bodied Chaser, voracious little creatures that will even take fish to eat, minnows and sticklebacks etc.....
A little soft maybe, but still a rarish capture Luke, well done mate!

Ade

Changed my mind on the species: Probably a Demoiselle, more details & pics here:
Dragonfly Society

Click the link on the left of the page saying UK species and then find Banded Demoiselle.

Luke, I think it is great, excellent use of DOF, BG is blurred nicely. The single blade of grass really tops the shot off!

I think this is the dry Shuck ( ie outer skeletal skin remains ) of a dragon fly larvae that has emerged - ill have a look in my books and get back - Frank
