Interested in comments to see if you all think there's too much negative space here.
Thanks for looking.
As usual, all comments welcome.
No not at all it works great.I might have flipped it though to see hoe it works that way
Works for me too...although I'm a big fan of lots of black space anyway so I would say that! Great title too.
I love it. Great pic. Anyone who says there is too much black space doesn't get it as far as I am concerned!
I like the space - its weight doesn't distract and actually heightens the focus on the boy with teddy.
Fantastic! To me, the lighting on the teddy and its shadow really makes this shot.
I'm gob-smacked! My first EC! Thanks Pete.
Thanks to everyone else for the comments.
Congratulations on the award. This shot is nice but is also slightly freeky. What lurks through the gap!
Great shot, I have just looked back at your other "into the light shot" and the addition of the blank space to the right improves an already excellent shot - great vision
I like this very much! Lovely image...like fairy tale...reminds me of Peter Pan?
I think it's perfect, the blank space gives special mood to this image. Congratulations on your first EC! Regards, Abdul
Congratulations on your EC - well deserved
Beautiful!! - Love it.
Oh i really like this, all comes together so very well. Nicely done.
Oh yes, one of the best pictures I've seen in ages. It's the position of the teddy bear that does it for me - it looks almost alive as well.
Very good, kida supernatural.
Amazing composition and detail.
Love it. Worthy.
excellent, well done on the EC
Fantastic image and congrats on the E.C-award. Maybe its a littel to much negative space in it but thats just my opinion.
Excellent. It reminds me of A.I.
superb. I think you've got the balance just right. I think the immense darkness is necessary for such a strong impact on the actual subject.
Very worthy of the EC by a long shot.
That's me inspired for the weekends shooting. Now where did her teddybear get to....
Brilliant composition. The wide angle works really well, as does the lighting. The position of the teddy really sets the scene! It could be interpretted either as an endearing scene or as an ominous one! Big thumbs up from me either way.
Have an RC as well, it deserves it!
Excellent work - very strong image and congrats on your EC
Very, very good. I like the negative space
Congrats on the EC
Great atmosphere, wonderful use of light. Congratulations
This picture succeeds for me. Good low key picture.
Very cool shot... works well. *click*
great picture, great atmosphere,
Thanks for all the comments and clicks for the RC. Very much appreciated.
Well worth the EC and RC!! Fantastic shot, I loved the first one too
Definitely not too much negative space IMO - I think it adds to the feeling of ... aloneness? (But of course, when you've got a teddy, you're never alone!)
Wonderfully evocative image.
Excellent shot, Congratulations on a EC Award, Superb.
Superb, deserves all it's got!
Outstanding picture, wish I'd taken it, fantastic use of available light. Incredible!
My money's on P.O.T.W
Thanks to everyone for taking the time to leave a comment.
Superb & congratulations with the EC.
This is excellent!! A really strong atmospheric image, I love the teddy bear!
edit: also, many congratulations on your first EC!!
Excellent shot! Well worthy
wow, what a fantastic image. very strong. well done on EC
Brilliant image - the negative space makes this

Negative space - Not at all.
Excellent image, reduce the black on the right and the composition does not work so well, as the little boy becomes too dominant in the image. Keeping the child as a small part of the shot conveys a feeling of vunrability which is what this image is all about.
Just want to add something on this. When I first saw it, it made me think of christmas time. The child opening the door to find father christmas putting the present on the tree.
Then I felt cold. Like it was a scene from a horror film.
I can honestly say a photo has never gotten me like this before so it's a bloody winner.
This will get lots of attention and lots of awards.
Spread it around.
This is just brilliant, congratulations on a well deserved EC !
Thanks for your comments. I'm delighted that this has had such an effect on you. Some people look at it and smile, some cringe. Photography should be able to stir the emotions & I was lucky enough (for once) to be able to create a photo that did just that. I know for me, that it depends on what mood I'm in on the day I look at this as to whether I feel a smile coming or a shiver up my spine.
Thank you all again for your comments.
Excellent capture - very powerful image. I like it a lot
fantastic shot and use of light
amazing what the space on the right does to the picture. fabulous shot to begin with. i'm betting potw, too. shh....
Brilliant shot, well done on your EC.
As you say,it definitely stirs the emotions,a very powerful image
Terrific composition. Great use of light. The original was great but the extra blackness really helps to emphasise the theme. Could be a still from a film. Steve
Stunning shot - one of those I wish I'd taken!!
congrats on the POTW, most deserved.
I like the comp so definitly not too much negative space.
Congratulations on POTW!
great use of space.
POTW! Wow. Thanks Pete. Thanks to everyone for their comments.
That black puts the emphasis firmly on the boy - cracker.
And well done on the awards.
Maybe a bit too much black but boy is this a change.
Excellent work Trevor, well done. Sort of reminds me of the Poltergeist films - "They're here!"
Wonderful shot - and the black empty space is absolutely perfect. Well deserving of RC & EC ... Regards, Paul.
did i call it or what!! congratulations!
What a superb - and evocative - image. Love the trail of the teddy's shadow :o)
Absolutely rocking - not often that a photo comes along that really is different and so effective.
Well done - congratulations.
A remarkable and inspiring image, Trevor. The negative space, and its mass, are essential elements in emphasizing the narrative in this extraordinary work. Soul-stirring, spirit-moving stuff. Many congratulations on an EC richly-deserved.
Stunning. I agree with everything thats been said, WOW & more !!!
It's all been said already...
I love it
I love it
I love it.
This is excellent use of negative space - it works brilliantly.
Congratulations. A very well deserved photo of the week.
Personally I can't get past the lonely and unsettling feeling given by this - probably because of all the darkness - but, which ever way you read it, it is brilliant.
I love this but I also find it disturbing, it's a bit like one of those NSCCP adverts
A superb shot with great emotive power, I think it has enormous publishing potential via image libraries.
Thanks again for all the comments.
yup this is stunning, well deserved pic of the week.
This is awsome, and well worth the EC Photo of the week.
Brilliant use of light. Congratulations on your EC and POTW!
Very impressed with the composition and lighting. Was it originally colour?
Nice use of black, bet you thought about cropping it and expect you have but I think you've got it about right here. Nice one.
Yes phogrot....was originally colour. I also flipped it around. The extra black on the right is just a black fill.
Thanks for the comments.
Has to be one of my favourites from this site Trevor (and I've been here a long time) This is georgous, well done, and a well deserved picture of the week.
Congratulations on an outstanding image, Trevor ... fabulous work.
Thanks very much Anne....kind words.
tells a story and hold my attension, love it, all credit is deserved here. congrats oli
Brilliant. In high contrast lighting situations I am always torn between trying to achieve a tonal range that we might achieve with the human eye or going for the dramatic contrasty lighting that the camera records unmanipulated. The fact that most of the photo is pitch black but an effective part of the composition really rubishes some people's obsession with shadow detail. Inspiring stuff. Nice one.
Thanks Brian (Ndraw). Lovely to hear things like this.
No negative space here. The black area is as effective as the main part of the image and it puts fear into the composition.
It has a sinister mood to it but is also beautiful. It conjures up all sorts of eerieness and uncomfortable feelings.
What more could I add, well, this ones a personal favourite...of the many that I've seen in this site...although such images are quite common, one still gotta take them, and you have done well here, needs no reminding ofcourse....this picture perhaps invokes in me the feelings of my own childhood, that of fear of the dark...and embracing the bright light...
intriguing!!!this image is AWESOME
It's never too late to vote for a great shot like this!
AWESOME!!!!! Great work.
Superb ...not looked, but I am sure people are agreeing...there is not too much negative space A wonderful shot, telling so may stories...well done!!!
I love this!!!! The rest has already been said!! Lyns x
This is so good! I love it!
Might we see a cropped portrait version?
May be just as effective!
Really thought provoking image, lovely...
this is ridiclously good!
