Female Endromis versicolora, Kentish Glory. Pretty rare, only a few known colonies where it seems to thrive well. This female hatched a 3 days ago and was used to attract males.

What's to criticise?

You could argue the it needs a little more DOF just to bring all the antennae into perfect focus along with it's back wing, but to my mind, that's just being really picky with what's a cracker of a shot. The only other thing I could criticise is I find the crop a little tight, but that's just down to my own personal opinion and again would be picking fault with the shot where there is none.
Excellent macro shot, I only wish it was mine!......Ade

I was surprised to read they are found, in open woodland, in the Scottish Highlands. With a name like that, I was expecting them to be found in Kent!!

As for your shot, it's so much better then the one in the book. You've managed to capture the head and legs perfectly, with a pale background which enhances the dark colours of the moth. Brilliant!

It's a stunner! One species I would love to see but alas they don't actually live here in Kent any more Sad

I am thinking this was captive hatched/reared? Something I am interested in myself.

The only criticism therefore is that I want to see one too!!!

Fishie...Come over, and Ill show you.
This female specimen is an ex ovo from a wildcaught female from last spring.

We used her to attract males of which we saw ca 5-7. They were rather fast and were not very attrated to the female as she was 3 days old.
The Kentish glory is very rare here. I think there are only 2 colonies in Denmark.
