Saw this odd cloud formation last night when I went out for a quick ciggie. The clouds had cleared in an almost perfect circle around the moon. Nipped back in for the tripod, camera and 10-20mm lens.
If anyone knows what this phenomena is all about, I'd be interested to know!
Really is worth viewing large (IMHO, and whilst my free e2 lasts!).
This may explain it.
Gorgeous shot, well captured
Cheers Mari - just been looking at that page in your link, and yes, that's what it looks like!
It's a braw bricht moonlicht nicht
Marvellous shot, Jamie. I have certainly never seen anything like this. Very well captured.
Excellent shot - the sky's have certainly been fabulous this past week or so.
It must be good to have just seen this effect, but to have done such a great job of capturing it is excellent. Including the ground details adds so much to this image and makes it very appealing as well as interesting. Great work.
Smashing shot Jim. The ring around the moon is known as a corona and is caused by the refraction of light through ice crystals in the earth's atmosphere.
Smashing shot, there was the same 'phenomenon' down here in Lothian about 6 weeks ago.I dont have the explanation though
Cheers folks for comments. I've just managed to find one with a straight horizon - surprised no-one brought it up
