Thank you for your comments on the wonderful moth up-loaded yesterday. It’s an incredible sensation when you see something so unusual and beautiful.

A new series so you can discover the beauty of the countryside in the Maolin Recreation Area. If you like going off the beaten track, away from the crowds these photos should hopefully interest you.

To get to Duona/Dona you drive on a very small road past mountain with incredible names: Dragon Head Mountain and Snake Head Mountain. At the end of quite a spectacular mountain road you reach the tiny village of Duona. This little village is famous because of the hot springs down in the Hongcheng Gorge a few kilometres away.

Duona is set deep in aboriginal country, home to the Rukai tribe who are very friendly and welcoming.

Following a track going down the gorge there is a paddy fields and a plantation of taro plants (part of the staple diet of the people in this region). I enjoyed the views on the paddy fields, palm trees and the mountains as a backdrop. (f11 1/30th sec zoom at 17mm multisegment metering)

Have a pleasant evening,

Jean-Noël
