West Tanfield

West Tanfield by MikeH

Well done Mike. The light is super. This is a classic location - over the years I've shot it on 35mm Velvia, 5x4 Velvia and a Hassey XPAN! Can't remeber if I've done it digitally but this'll take some beating.

Backlit Barny ...

Backlit Barny ... by sut68

Going to stick my head above the parapet here and go against everyone else :¬o

The exposure is very well handled (though the primaries are blown out) but apart from that there is very little creative input to lift it above a captive barn owl on a post.

Asking the falconer to move the jesses to hang at the rear would lift it a bit, turning the owl completely around for a back view would hide the jesses altogether. A simple clicking noise can make the owl look over its shoulder and without the jesses, it becomes a much more credible shot though it would never pass for wild as the primaries are shot. Typical of a falconers bird - the feathers get damaged in the aviaries.

Sorry to sound harsh

Bird

Bird by teocali

a while since I've been birding in the States but try looking up song sparrow. Not really a true sparrow but the Yanks call a lot of things sparrows that aren't actually sparrows. It's about as far removed from a 'chat' as you can get btw :¬\

great comp but it doesn't look sharp to me - a touch of camera shake I think.
