We heard him before we saw him, the strains of his classical guitar drifting upwards to where we stood on the battlements of the Castelo de São Jorge. We walked along until we came to a large courtyard where we spotted him sitting in the shade of a tree. His repertoire was classical - some favourites such as Cavatina and other pieces that we did not recognise.

We spent 10 minutes suspended in the atmosphere of the castle, the ancient city and the music. Then we hurried off to meet our friends in another part of town.

This summarises for me the individuality of music in Lisbon, far more so than Fado. I can imagine the guitarist totally absorbed in his music-making and oblivious to the camera. I like the way you have used the trees to frame him while providing a different and very rewarding composition.

Bill

I remember that walk round the ramparts, one of the most enjoyable parts of the city. Lovely atmosphere here, real sunshine filtering through shady leaves.
