Today I am again stepping out of my normal mode and presenting the sun setting on a partly frozen burn in Scotland. I would really appreciate your input on helping me improve all aspects.

I have allowed modifications so feel free to rework.

Thanks in advance for your support on this new domain, of course all C&C welcome.

David

Its a very attractive shot David. Looks like youe applied some toning, - not certain.

I think the foreground ice is a focal poibt, and its a litttle dull; and the tree and sky in at the top could be a distraction with that bright area.

Ive loaded 2 mods for comparison, - both have the foreground ice brighter, both are sharper, and mod2 removes the trees completely.

have a look and see what you think. Unfortunately we can only upload 600 pixel mods.

regards

Willie

Removing the tree and sky was my initial thought. Willie has nailed it for me.

Compositionally I feel it is fine although tue exclusion of the sky in one of the mods does improve it overall. I too was wondering if you had toned the image in some way......if so it has taken the whiteness out of the ice.
Ronnie.

Frozen milky water. The basis here is pretty good as is the technique, but that very bright sky area just has to go - mod 2 has it, but I would brighten the foreground ice with the dodge tool a bit too. Presentation possibly a bit ornate for a crit section.

I like Willies first mod with the ice definitely an improvement but I don't like the second I think the sky is a little bright but looks odd cropped out! So for me just needs darkening a little.

Its always good and inspiring to try new areas David. This is a fine image for composition and exposure generally. I would say though which I hear alot from top judges that is to avoid bright areas at the edges as in the sky. If this is toned down a little I feel it would work better and also a shorter exposure as the water flow looks too milky to me.
Hats off for trying and I like it a lot with the warm tones and lead line of the burn and contrast of the ice

I think perhaps 25% could be cropped off the bottom also.............Sandy
