189 (227)Yesterday I went with Sue to have a look at the Anderton Boat Lift. It's about ten years since we were there last. This time, instead of the usual rain and mist we were treated to a gorgeous summery day. We also met Ted whilst were having a coffee.
Ted is a volunteer and it was actually his wife that started the appeal for the restoration of the boat lift, almost 30 years ago. He kndly showed us around the site and filled in some detail about the history of both the lift and the restoration process. I took his picture in front of the display where he and his wife, in younger days, are both shown. Ted's wife is sadly no longer here, but he keeps their efforts alive by being a volunteer at the site.
The Anderton Boat Lift is well worth a visit. We followed it up with a pleasant walk along the Trent and Mersey Canal, ending with an equally pleasant outdoor lunch at The Moorings Inn.
We're thinking that next year we just might book a narrow boat for a week and retrace our previous waterways holiday to Llangollen and back.
