The Grey Heron ( ardea cinerea )
Went to the local hide today with the intention of bagging a Redshank but finished instead getting involved with a brute of a Heron catching a Perch. These birds use their beaks to fantastic effect and if you look carefully you will see that he has speared the fish right through. The last shot shows the killer getting away as fast as he could.
My grateful and appreciative thanks for all views/comments,votes on the last Heron. Particular thanks to Steve ( Sparrowhawk ) and Ina ( Gezina ) for their User Awards.
I hope large view will be worth your time.

Excellent set of captures Ron - well done indeed !
Chris
Outstanding set of wildlife photography - superb timing with magnificent detail and quality - if Pete doesn't recognise this - there is no justice on this site!!!! If I had another UA available you would have had that as well - as consolation I'll upload my Redshank shots shortly but wouldn't mind swapping

Quote: Ron I am at a total loss! 9 User awards, 88 votes and no recognition from the awards team. What do you have to do on here to be recognised?
A SUPERB set of images with great detail and composition. Well done Ron.
Paul
I agree with Paul completely, it must be about 'who you know' not how good an image/images is/are.
These images are fantastic, really excellent work. Congrats for all the well deserved user awards ![]()
Hi Ron, sorry I'm late coming in here. What more can I add that hasn't already been said, I think 9 user awards just about sums it up and I would add mine also if it were available, I'm very tempted to say a lot more but have seen and heard far too much about 'team awards' already. The endless discussions and forums just go nowhere and it's best not to bite the bait IMHO, a wonderful set my friend,
Regards,
Geoff.
Congratulations on all the UAs - a stunner of an image.
Anne
Brilliant...I love image 2...you have got the eye of the fish and heron spot on.
Dave
A brilliant set of action shots Ron, this is wildlife photography at its best
