I was lucky enough to attend an Amateur Photographer magazine workshop yesterday on still life/macro photography. There were only four of us and the resulting article (four pages long, I believe) of images (and images of us!
) from the day will be published on 9th March. I used my new toy - a Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG Macro OS - all day, so more flower images to come. Comments and criticisms are, as usual, very welcome.
A big thank you to everyone who commented and helped with mods (Keith and Willie) and to Jenn Taggart for her UA on Take Three Oranges.

I don't see this floral shot bringing any criticism, Ann, only praise: the use of the wide aperture has allowed selective focussing on the central darker petal area which is positioned so precisely where it should be.
Look forward to more from your workshop.
Ronnie.
its a fine wee lens Ann takes a bit of time to get used to but very good as you capture shows fine work

A lovely soft glow, and well balanced with the centre of the flower on the thirds. I shall look out for that issue.

A fitting upload for Valentines Day Ann, very beautiful softness to the image.

Hi Ann,
I really enjoyed the day as well as having a chance to meet you in person. Your image is a testiment to your skill. The soft colours and detail are beautiful. After way too long a hiatius I will post one of mine as well. It will be fun to see the article and more of everyone's work. Susi says hello and enjoy the new lens!!
Cheers,
Greg
The centers of chrysanthemums are so beautiful the way the petals curl in at the centers. Like the off-center compo and the sharp detail in the center, fading into a blur towards the edges.
Anne
Love this Ann, brilliant dof and a perfect Macro image. The colouring (or colour) is amazing!
And a very happy Valentines Evening to you too .
