I know lots of people are uploading photos of birds at the moment and mine isnt nearly as ggod, but i was really excited by how close it came to me, havent uploaded anything like this beofre so please give me your comments.

I know the feeling, excellent effort.
Try to watch out for the background, go low and tilt up angle against a tree in the background works usually.. Nevertheless an excellent effort, Kate.

Good try. I've taken hundreds and discarded most of them. I try to avoid any sun as it causes shadows or highlights on the bird.
Last year I put a flat topped feeder about 4 feet from the kitchen window with seeds bread and a fat ball hanging from the washing line. I mount the camera on tripod and wait until they turn up. Even then it may take an hour or two to get anything worthwhile - good hunting.

The other problem we have here is the sheer quality of the photos on this site. As I've found its something to aim for.

A jolly good first try at a Robin shot.
The DOF could be a bit shallower, but it isn't too bad.
Nicely framed subject.
I think the sun's angle has probably spoilt this shot for you.
Keep trying and keep uploading.
