Rose in Frost

Rose in FrostI really like the way the rose has been edged in frost - so beautiful.

Looking at the image I'm wondering what it would look like with a little cropping (for instance, removing the bud on the right) and lifting the lighting a little, to make the red shine out from the dark background. These points are just opinion and probably just me! Smile

Poppy Pair

Poppy PairMmm. A difficult one! The only thing I could think of doing is placing a peg gently on the stem (under the card), as far down the stem as needed - though that might give you other problems. But, as you are so good with manipulations perhaps your idea of taking a picture of the stem/foliage will give a more pleasing result.

After saying that, Brian and I seem to be in the minority, so in the end you must please yourself - if you are happy with the end result then it's Perfect! Grin

Sparrow Hawk

Sparrow HawkA brilliant capture - not easy birds to get close to. I feel it's very cramped in frame though, a little more space (both right and top) would give it a little more space to 'move into'. Smile

Ladybird

LadybirdA beautiful 7-spot Ladybird, such a wonderful colour!

Your point of focus is ever so slightly too high (if you look at the top of its shell that area is perfectly in focus), I would like to see its eyes as sharp. Smile

Small Tortoiseshell

Small TortoiseshellA beautiful capture, the details are wonderful. But, personally, I think I would de-saturate this one slightly, the colours are a little too bright! Smile

Long-tailed Tit

Long-tailed TitBeautifully caught, the details on the bird are stunning! Smile

I hope you don't mind me saying, and it is only my opinion. I know the background is probably totally natural, but with the perfect lighting it almost looks as if you had it in a cardboard box - I wonder if a little less blurring in the background would make it seem more 'natural'. Smile

Ringlet

RingletA gorgeous capture - I love the colours and details.

I'm sure this is the way the butterfly was and the image is a good one, but I wonder if rotating it clockwise 90deg would give an improved angle. Smile

Eye Can

Eye CanHi Chloe, great to see you uploading again! Smile

This is a gorgeous shot of your eye, the iris is very pretty (even in b&w).

I don't know if you have a computer programme for post processing (such as Photoshop), but if so then perhaps just a little tidying up would improve the image. For instance, I think I would use the 'Heal' tool on 4 pixels and just touch the odd bits of mascara under the eye.

(Edit: Mmmm. Looking at my modification I may have over sharpened the iris. I'm sorry I don't have time for another go right now, I'll try and have another go this afternoon.)

Nerdy Bee

Nerdy BeeOk - I'll try again. I visited just now, but accidentally deleted everything! Smile

With this one I really like the fact you've managed to get so close to the bee - having it on a page of maths cuts out clutter (and made me smile!) Smile

I took it into Photoshop Elements 9 (I only know the basics, so I've really not done a lot!).

First of all I took it into 'Enhance > Adjust Color> Remove Color Cast'.
Then 'Enhance > Lighting > Levels'.
After that I went into Quick Edit and slide the bars on 'Shadows', 'Midtones' and 'Highlights' + I gave it a little sharpening.
I went back to main Edit and under 'Filter > Noise > Despeckle' I removed any noise.
After giving it a slight crop (trying to keep as much maths as possible), I played with the 'Dodge' and 'Burn' tools to lighten and darken certain areas.

I hope I have improved the image - all adjustments were minor! Smile

Tyna

TynaHi Iva, welcome to EPZ! A gorgeous capture!

I've had a little play with it in Photoshop Elements 9. I used the 'Heal' and 'Clone' tools to remove items in the background. Then used 'Blur' just to make what I'd done blend in a little better. A quick tweak in 'Contrast' and a little sharpen. Smile Such a cute subject to work with!

The eyes are beautifully sharp, but a shame you nipped it's tail!

Spencer

SpencerA lovely image, well thought out and caught.

I think it may have improved the image if you had taken the picture from the other side of the table, using the light from the window to light your subjects. Saying that, you may have took the image this way to back light the flower, but I feel had you reflected some light back onto the flower and photo you would have made a little improvement.

Light

LightWhat a gorgeous portrait! Brilliantly caught! Smile

I think I would be tempted to experiment with different crops - for instance, would the image be even better if you cropped off the right hand side, and some off the bottom. This would center our attention on your face. I also think because your hands are closer to the camera they have been made to look larger then they really are (if you scroll down until just the light shows and cover your straps you can see what I mean!).

portrait

portraitYour sister is a very pretty young lady and I like the fact you've kept the make-up subtle. Just a few minor points which would (in my opinion) improve the image.

I think the spots on the curtains are a little eye catching - perhaps pulling the curtains out of shot would give a less cluttered background.
The scarf around her head - I really like the colour, but feel an improvement may have been to fold the hem inside, out of sight.

I really like the treatment you've given this shot, beautifully toned and soft colours are ideal to show your sister at her best! Smile Well thought out and captured.

(Of course, all these points are minor and simply down to personal opinion - if you and your sister are happy with the shot, then it's perfect!) Grin

Cheeky Monkey

Cheeky MonkeyWhat a brilliant capture - I love the way you've caught its eyes!

I think you may have taken this through glass (which makes it an even better catch, usually glass is scratched and grimy!), there are a few reflections. The way to avoid reflections is to gently place your lens against the glass! Smile

We have announced our next competition - it's being held next Saturday (29th October). If you are interested and would like to learn more, then please click on this link! Smile

Field beyond the flower.

Field beyond the flower.Mmmm. I see what you mean. Perhaps if you had taken a slightly higher point of view and had all the flower in frame. I think because it looks quite a big part of the image it is slightly overpowering the gorgeous view. Don't forget when you have a scene like this you can take more then one shot (the joys of digital), using different distances, point of view, point of focus etc., you can then look through them and keep the best ones! Smile Still, it was a good try and well thought out! Smile

Harris Hawk

Harris HawkA beautiful falcon. He is posing beautifully for you.

The trouble with these bird stands are they're usually in deep shade to protect the birds, this has given you a little camera movement (blur). I don't know about you, but I don't take my tripod everywhere with me, perhaps next time you could use a back pack or handbag to place the camera on - this would give you a fairly firm surface and help keep the camera still. It would also put the camera on the same level as the bird. Sometimes there are posts with chains to keep people back from the birds, these also make good camera posts! Smile

toadstool

toadstoolA Fly Agaric! I don't get these near me, I'd love to find one! You've caught it well, just a little over exposed. Perhaps next time you find one to photograph, try to put your camera down on a solid surface (using the timer is a good idea to stop further camera shake) - as long as it's clean and dry! (you can buy special camera 'bean bags', or even make one!). Smile
06/08/2011 - 8:01 AM

Guitar

GuitarAn unusual point of view and brilliant depth of field. You've processed this one beautifully (there's just a tiny sliver of red on the right hand side, perhaps 'burning' or 'cloning' it out would make it less noticeable!). Smile

Guide ropes

Guide ropesA gorgeous shot (though the rope is a little soft - did you remember to sharpen after you resized for upload?). I love the wonderful colours in the background and the composition is spot on (I think just a sliver off the bottom, to make the rope come out of the bottom left corner, would be a slight improvement). Well seen and presented.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone's entries! Smile

Singled out

Singled outAn interesting image, well focused. Just two minor points, the number 6 has been slightly nipped at the top (although this may have been intentional) and a slight mark on the table (had the cards been moved up a little this could have been hidden). But they are minor points and probably just me! Smile
