Graham found another bug for me! This is a Tanner Beetle (Prionus coriarus). It is the biggest of our (UK) Longhorn Beetles, the body was an inch (50mm) long, not including the huge antennae! - it was very active so I had quite a game keeping the little perisher on the picnic table!
I felt I had to share, so there are 5 versions of this one!! ![]()

fantastic macros, You would have done well to have captured these images if the critter was still but I know they run fast and don't really stop for a breath.

Marvellous detai in these macros Karen, fine work indeed
A great set of images, never seen one of these beetles
Great image, we obviously enjoy shooting similar things. Just one point though....50mm is actually 2" ......25.4 mm is an inch.
Regards Malc
Thanks Malc! ![]()
You are of course spot on (re: size) - you managed to be the first person to spot my deliberate mistake!
The beetle's body was probably 1 1/2 inches long - that looks so clumsy on screen I just left the error! (that'll teach me!) lol. Thanks for your c&c! ![]()
