.................A Butterfly.

I have two versions of this gorgeous Marbled White (female). This one was taken at a distance, using the camera's zoom. I quite like this one because a) a hover fly decided to get in frame and b) because of the oof background.

Version 2: This was taken with Super Macro within a few inches.

Personally I prefer version one, it seems sharper and the background less cluttered. I was a little disappointed with the second image because the edge of the wings are a bit fuzzy.

I was a little surprised, I thought getting the details on Super Macro at a very close distance would have provided more details, not less!

Perhaps I shall try zooming in from a distance a little more often, the number of times I've got too close and frightened the subject away! Smile

very good indeed, sharp and well framed. It is amazing how butterflies seem to go for this particular thistle.

What a superb shot Karen. I am trying my hand at macro with my Panasonic FZ38 - I am trying Shutter priority with AF Macro-from about 4ft away - or Close up setting on the dial about 1" away but that relies on subject remaining in place. So I am taking some inspiration from your portfolio. Thanks for comment and confirmation of Speckled Wood.
