Last week I commented on someone's image that I hadn't seen any Black-Tailed Skimmers in my area.............well, now I have!!

We went for a walk beside Tiverton Canal and there were several zipping up and down (both male and female!) - if only this one had chosen a beautiful Iris or Bullrush to settle on. Instead it decided the path was the ideal place. . .*sigh*.

Wow! What a lovely surprise. Thank you Isabel for your User Award (I didn't think this one would do well because of the background!). Grin

A real belter Karen, the clarity and wing detail is most impressive. I snapped a few of these at Coombe Hill nature reserve close to to the disused canal last Friday and I too had problems with the backgrounds as they kept on settling on the dried earth of the paths. To remedy this problem you could always do a "Tomcat" in the future and invest in a groundsheet from Next which is in a natural looking colour and use that as a background!WinkGrinTongue

Not the ideal perch but the detail shoes up beautifully.
