When we were walking beside the Tiverton Canal we were lucky enough to meet the horse drawn barge - it's beautifully painted and the people in charge of it are all dressed appropriately.

The dog you can see is the horse's friend, when he gets tired he just jumps up on the horse's back for a rest!

Although it's lovely to see, the downside is there are several areas of horse droppings (the owners are supposed to collect it as they go, but obviously they can't be bothered!) - a hazard for anyone going for a wander, especially those with prams!

Very good picture!
They have the same arrangement at Llangollen for trippers.
The last time I went on it they turned the boat around and forgot to attach the horse for the return journey.
It was a quarter of a mile away before they realised.

An idyllic canalside scene showing us what it was like in days gone by. It looks great in glorious colour but may also look good if you attempted a sepia conversion
