Taken in the lounge, light poor, no tripod because i don't have one.
Have given it some fill light to try and brighten.
Taken on same day as iris shots so not had chance to put into practise previous comments.

Quote: OK without your tripod and an exposure time of 1/14 sec it is possible to see the 'off-focus' to the head itself, using full aperture made life even more difficult for you. You have admitted to not having time to take in earlier advice so I will restrict 'critique' to the image itself. Incidentally, for hand held, you fared rather well.

Compositionally, you have IMHO your flower head a little too high in your frame, leaving an excess of stalk. Like other things that I mention time and time again, flower heads need space in which to grow. You can often minimise this amount by using a square aspect ratio. Next there is a great deal of noise apparent in your background.

So I have uploaded two mods, one leaving a very similar format as that which you used and another in square so that you can see the difference. I added canvas to the top and then selected a small section of the background colour and filled all the new background with that, removed noise (drop down menu in PSE) and then applied the crops that you see in the mods section.

I hope you get a sturdy tripod (Don't waste money on cheap flimsy ones, you will only feel the need to replace it later) soon so that you can fulfil your predilection for this type of picture.

Frank

Thankyou Frank.
Can you do any of the alterations you've mentioned on any of the free ones like picassa etc?
A tripod will be on my birthday list in june, any recommendations tht aren't too expensive?

Hi,
Buying a tripod, get the best that you can aford. Imay pay you to look at better quality secondhand ones.
Until then fill a bag wih lentils and use that as a support for your camera.
I hoe that this helps.
Michael
