From This weekends trip to Avoncroft, first Time doing Photography for a few months as i concentrated on Video. I enjoy video but it has made me appreciate stills more and quite missed doing it, A case of a break making it seem more fresher.
Here again Auflarungs being portrayed in a europian farm building, Used as a temp barracks. In reality a tudor building at Avoncroft.
GD Auflarungs was A recon unit and fought on the eastern front mainly.

Thanks all for your kind comments. This was also my five star accomedation for the weekend, First time ive bunked with 30 peaple in over 40 years, never mind the fact that i was tripping over heavy michine guns every time i went to the loo during the night and was the odd one out dressed in modern clothing. As you can Imagine away from the public gaze these guys are great fun to spend time with as they relax.
Im very Honoured to be trusted enough by them to be in that position as being a german re-enacter can be difficult and the media have painted some very damming storys about groups in the past which in most cases was total rubbish on a slow news day.
I have to say this is probably the best re-enactment photo I've ever seen. Most are clearly re-enactment photos. This one has a feeling of reality, something that's usually missing due to surroundings, natural lighting , poses or characters. Truly stunning and as Cole say's - like it's from a movie!
Thanks again, On the reality Issue, This group is one of the most relistic of the period they cover, Uniforms have to be perfect replicas down to every detail, equipment is often origenal item and thousend of pound are spent on each portrayal, like photography to us its becomea a passion for them with research to learn about, the building itself is a very old building so this i imgine adds the the effect of it being real.
Add the fact that im a trusted friend to the group I get ignored with a camera which means these shots are quite candid (this was a meeting about a future venue), reference the lighting it was auto iso as the rrom was so dark with bright sunshine near the windows streaming through, Was getting an iso of 3200 handheld so quite surprised how this stood up.
Thanks again
Could be a still from a War film or a painting. The quality of light and the composition is near perfect. Outstanding work and deserving of even more attention than it has received.

Just went to give this my user award but it seems to be disabled. Shame as I would have no hesitation in giving it.

Thankyou all, I realised long ago that this type of photography isnt the most populer genree so its very nice to recieve such comments, Ive passed the part doing photography for photography which i have done for meny years, I now do mainly this type for lots of reasons, to support and be part of these groups. quite often this has led to some great opportunitys that in the hands of someone more advanced would make some great images. Thankyou again
great POTW choice - oozes atmosphere, the bloke at the front looks like he's about to go over the top or something!

Strange thing is that guy is a Russain that comes over here to re-enact, as do a german and a dutch gentleman, fasinating group, great sense of humour and intrest and knowledge in there impression. I will be joining them a few times this year to take photographs, with Armour next time.
