Back into 'safer' territory for me with a close up of some pebbles....

After a search for some flat different coloured pebbles I placed them carefully on a rock and used the sea/beach/seaweed as a b/g ... I feel more comfortable with these kind of shots so enjoyed being sprawled amongst the rocks snapping away to bring Zen to EPZ Smile Think Josh had more fun using them as a target practise afterwards lol.

Thank you for viewing and as always C&C welcomed.

Karen Smile

Visually this isn't quite making sense.

Did you add some blur? The left end of the stones is not as sharp as the right end, even though in most instances they appear to be on the same plane.

Super image Karen. Nice colours, light and background.

In reply to CSCurry, I have no idea .... no blur/soft focus were added the only adjustments to the RAW file was a slight increase to black & contrast.
Camera was set to AV priority and focus was on the rock. Tech info as follows: Aperture F4, ISO 100, Exposure 1/200, Focal length 120mm.

If anyone can advise why i'd be interested to hear?

Thank you

Great image, really like this

Mark

good close up the nice texture in the colours, although a little dark, but lightening up would lose the texture somewhat, the focus looks fine,

unusual comment??
the "blur" was prob due to the apeture used F4, G

Lovely shot, like all the different colours. If it were mine I'd have had changed the second from the top to a flatter stone, more inkeeping with the rest. But that's just my personal taste. I think it's a great image.

Excellent! Love this.

I kind of like the second to the top stone because I can see some good detail on it. Regardless, this has the perfect amount of light and what a background.

Nicely set up, Karen. The DoF brings those lovely b/ground colours through well.

Just really weird then Karen.

Can't work out what but given the DOF would be very limited it could be that the millimetres of difference in position are enough to cause the effect and maybe f/4.5 or even f/5.6 would still have blurred the bg enough, but kept all the top stones sharp.

The reason I questioned it was that they appear to be on the same plane and thus you would expect both ends to be sharp (or blurred) but it's not always easy to tell if you were exactly parallell to the stones.

For me personally it is not the blur of the background that jars (as some seem to have interpreted the question) but either end of the individual stones. One end is sharp, the other is not. I just think it would really pop off the screen with a slight adjustment to the settings.
