A lot to like about this photo - including the expression and the way the head is held.

The attempt at a backlit picture , however, hasn't quite come off here. The sun has caused flare and much of the left of the photo is overexposed while the subject's face is thrown into shadow. In circumstances such as these it is best to switch to manual exposure and take your light reading from the face.

In the mod I've uploaded for you i have tried to mitigate the problems by cropping and then using a combination of a curves adjustment and the shadows/highlights tool to bring out the shadow area whilst reining in the highlights.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lauren. Carabosse is right and, as he says the expression and pose is spot on. I would have tried a little (adjust the flash strength in your camera menu) fill in flash from your pop up flash to bring out more detail in the model.
Happy Snapping.
Adam
