Hi Stu,

I was meant to mention on the write up that the photos were taken as promotional material for the Salon... the guy in the BG is the salon owner... kinda meant to be there, but I understand why it can be seen as a distraction.

Might have been nice to alter her position relative to the pillar to separate her more from it. Moving her further left would have helped. I like the idea of the owner being out of focus but in the background.

I would have been tempted to have leaning back against the wall arms folded watching the two of you to try and create a bit more tension/linkage.

Hi Gav,

It's a nice capture, no doubt, but I think you've ruined the image by being too heavy handed with the vignette. The guy in the background is definitely a distraction, but not nearly as much as the black oval around the image.

Have you though about either:

a: Using a square/rectangular vignette tool - I use Tiffen DFX for most vignetting, and you can adjust it to just creep into the edges, creating the "draw" to the centre, without it noticably being there.

or

b: Use the burn tool on a low opacity and create the vignette yourself, just towards the edges and corners.

Still get's a vote from me because I think the image is good, but one of my biggest bug-bears is over-processing, of which you are guilty here.

Would love to see the untouched original - can you upload it as another version?

I like it and considering the assignement the Hair Bosun in the background works well. I think the vignette might be slightly over cooked but that said it probably suits the advertising objective.

Hi Danny,

Good comments. Unfortunately I'm no longer an e2 member so cannot upload a version.

I tend to go easy on the vignetting, not too sure why I went a bit crazy-ass on this one!! Believe it or not, it's only until I read your comment until I saw how obvious the oval was!! I'm usually one to comment on that. I'm ashamed of myself!!

* hangs head *

no need for shame. It kind of looks like you're looking through an eye...
