The dying flower produces fascinating intensity in form and colour. Reminds me of flowers in old paintings - hence the name.

The background spoils this for me I'm afraid. It's patchy grey and black. Have you tried to darken it using the clone tool?? I always use black velvet as a background for my flowers. Hope that helps a bit and apologies if I offend

Mike, heavens no, no apologies needed! Thank you for being honest and constructive. Yes, I'm aware of the possibilities You mentioned but deliberately decided to leave the background as it is. I've grown to yearn for more liveliness and choices for backgrounds - don't mean the background in this particular photo is the solution, no, but there are just sooo many of blackest blacks with motives on them out there...It has become the norm - and I like breaking them ;D

I can never understand people on this site!.....Sorry Lena I was about to spout off before praising this shot!..it is a wonderful composition with beautiful light and texture!........so why oh why so few votes!.......and yet bog standard shots hit 50's and 60's!......I have broken my rule of non voting on this shot as it is so good. well done Lena keep up the good work!..........Ken
