Superb portrait Leon. The DOF works beautifully. I might even have gone for a square crop on this but works well as it is.
In answer to your question about the Martin Johnson interview, no, I didn't see it but over here it's taken for granted the press will focus on the negatives so I can guess how it went.

Very well captured and composed. The use of selective focus works well here. I'm just now learning portraiture in class, and this is a case where you could actually use some fill flash to prevent those shadows under the eyes. I know, sounds nuts in bright sun, but works really well. The water helps give some reflected light, but just not enough.

Thanks Wefi, I always use flash outdoors when the subject has a hat on to avoid the shadow under the eyes. In this shot however I was sitting in my entertainment room and the camera was at full zoom therefore no flash. I could actually call this "the lazy man's shot" lol
Thanks a lot for all your advise, it is so appreciated !!! I really am a true amateur and hoping to shoot that "cracker" so please continue to help out
