This the national bird of Cost Rica....and VERY difficult to find and photograph, my friends son has lived here 18 years and never seen one...I was here 2nd day, with a guide, and had them in the camera...this was when we had the earthquake, and we were just two and half miles from epicentre!!!
Thought it was my excitement...
Also got the long tailed one...so beautiful.

Thank you Steve and Ruth for your User Awards...appreciated
Thank you all for stopping by, and very sorry cannot do much voting
Due to internet...but doing my best.

Take care and look after each other

And I did not bother to swim with the crocodiles today...thought
I would upset them...pool was enough.Tongue

Beautiful bird well captured.

You obviously had the luck of the visitor. When we were in the USA we spent one and a half hours watching an American Bald Eagle in the wild. When we got back to the hotel we told the lady there. She was an eagle nut, had never seen one in the wild and when she checked with all the staff and residents, neither had they. It seems that National birds only make appearances for tourists!

How lucky you were to capture such a fabulous bird! You are very thoughtful and I am sure the crocodiles will appreciate your thinking of their feelings and not swimming with them. Grin

Wow, a mythical bird! ("associated with the "snake god", Quetzalcoatl by Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican civilizations" [Wikipedia]. ) Not only in Costa Rica is famous but in all Maya and Aztec cultures. A very rare image. Excellent!

Wonderful shot Lillian, not much chance of us seeing this Bird then lol. Earthquake was it a bad one ? Strangely we were in Jersey on our last day and we also had an Earthquake its epicenter was just 7 miles away and was felt as far away as Scotland

Looks a bit grumpy Lillian but a colourful shot.
And I turned down the part as Tarzan in a remake of the film.
There was no way I was wrestling with a crocodile wearing nothing but a loincloth over my bits and bobs !!
