Stork-billed Kingfisher #1

Stork-billed Kingfisher #1Nice work. Did you use shadows/highlights or HDR to brighten the image? Whatever, I copied your image and worked on it and the bird stood out much better when I desaturated the background greens. If you want my version just message me with your e-mail address and I will send it to you and delete your e-mail address immediately afterwards.

Peepo

PeepoLovely creature nicely captured but I feel that there is a lot that can be done to lift this image and present it a little better, hence my two mods.

Arlington Row

Arlington RowIf you have Photoshop and you are shooting in RAW then Adobe Camera Raw has a neat slider entitled 'Fill Light' which could be useful to lift the lighting on these cottages in this shot. An alternative is the judicious use of Image>Adjustmemts>Sahdows/Highlights.

Nice image, well worth working on.

Rose Montage

Rose MontageA really good first attempt so well done you. IMHO the background is a little too dominant, both in colour and sharpness, so softening that and increasing the colour and sharpness on the rose should redress the balance and place the rose as the superstar. I've uploaded a mod so that you can check out my ideas for the image.

I often take shots just to store as backgrounds for images such as this one. I'm sure my companions on the Venice trip thought I was barking mad when I took close up photographs of crumbling brick walls and shabby rendering, but these will be utilised later as backgrounds for flower shots. Keeping a file of such textures for use as backgrounds is very useful. Perfecting the technique for Drop Shadows is also useful when compiling such montages. Hope that helps.

My Christmas present and I

My Christmas present and IA happy dog surrounded by Christmas chaos - a lovely subject nicely captured. It could use a bit of brightening though, which is very easily done using levels.

Millennium Bridge, London

Millennium Bridge, LondonThis is a lovely sharp shot from a great POV and it has great potential to make a number of versions as there are such strong lines and shapes. It does need the verticals sorting out (St Paul's is leaning) which is relatively easy in Photoshop, and some work on presentation would not go amiss. I actually did the correction and also a black and white version, so if you want to see my versions, just message me with your e-mail address and I'll send them, then delete your e-mail address immediately.

Quote: It works well on the body of the boats,
but perhaps not so much on the masts and rigging with the ''halo's'' on them !!
Mick.

Maybe you could try placing V1 on a layer over V2 then reducing its transparency until you got the effect you wanted, then flatten the pic. Interesting anyway.

Rainbow Arch

Rainbow ArchIt is a super landscape and a nicely composed image so worth a vote, but it looks bleached out /over exposed on my monitor. It can be greatly improved with a little work in Photoshop to bring down the highlights (some work on levels and contrast)- I know I tried. If you want my version just message me with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you then delete your e-mail address.

Looking down the fence.

Looking down the fence.Love the view and the mist. the greens seem a little over saturated to me. Were they really that bright or have you upped the saturation?

Olympic Stadium

Olympic StadiumLove the juxtaposition of the flowers, the fence and the stadium. I'd also like to see a purely architectural shot from the other side of the fence.

On the highs

On the highsNils and Gabriel are portrayed very nicely here but few people will notice as the dog completely steals the show. Lovely image recording a lovely memory I think.

Selling apples...

Selling apples...Nice street photography with some lovely colours and textures. I would have preferred this if it had a shallower depth of field so that the background was blurred and/or if the background has been de-saturated. Its a shame you didn't enable modifications as I would have posted both if you had.

Bethnal Green Road

Bethnal Green RoadThis has so much potential so worth a vote for that, but it needs adjustment to get the perpendiculars right and a little work on the tones I think. Sorting the perpendiculars is pretty easy in Photoshop - I know, I did it. If you want my version just message me with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you then I'll delete your e-mail address.

Severn Crossing

Severn CrossingLovely detail, great sky interest so well worth a vote, but this needs straightening to make the river edge horizontal.

The Secret Reservoir

The Secret ReservoirAn intriguing subject with nice reflections so well worth a vote. I do feel that it needs work to give it more impact though as it comes across as a little dull and featureless. You haven't enabled modifications but I did one anyway to see if my ideas worked. If you want the mod just message me with your e-mail address and I'll send it you you then delete your e-mail address immediately.

lagarto

lagartoLovely creature, and worth a vote for the nice skin textures, but a shame that you chopped off his top bit. If this had been mine I would have cropped out the blurry stuff in the foreground.

Wild Orchid

Wild OrchidStunning capture of this lovely flower and great composition. If this had been mine ( I wish) I would have softened the left hand edge to blend it in with the black background or framed it, but that's just me.
29/09/2011 - 1:49 PM

Reflection

ReflectionYou cannot legislate for the sky, but I really ink that a plain sky works well here as there are no distractions from the fort and the reflection. It's is a lovely postcard quality shot.

All saints church, Pocklington

All saints church, PocklingtonDramatic indeed, what a wonderful golden glow in this fine picture. Just a small point - if this had been mine I would have cloned or cropped out the very dark thing just above the fence on the extreme left of the image. I can't tell what it is, it doesn't add anything positive to the image and it is a bit distracting.

cotton grass

cotton grassLovely focus on the subject plane, though I would have preferred it to be less central. Some info about the plant and it's location would have been nice.
