I'm not, Jenn, but this bird is big enough for even me to see, and it allows me to approach within about 6 feet: anything smaller I'd not spot itWinkWink.

This heron is different to us in B.C. That pigtail seems not to be prominent in our blue herons. Like all herons, he is certainly very serious in his attitude. Pattern on the front is different, yet otherwise just like ours. TG

Quite lovely Ronnie, and excellent with it.
We have "Spoonbills" in the brook near us but they are never near enough
for my small camera. They fly off at 20 foot so they are not to be tackled, I think.

Beautifully sharp, Ronnie, and the eye stands out so well. The 'over-the-shoulder' pose fits this format perfectly. My only suggestion might be to crop the top so there is the same space from the head to the top as there is to the side (that might be just one of my idiosyncrasies but I find it gives a better balance in many situations).

Little known safety advice from our local wildfowl recue team. Any approach to an injured or cornered heron or crane is very dangerous. As you know their spearing accuracy is 100% so beware that beak. They will aim for the eye in self defense. Beautiful portrait image. TG

A terrific detailed portrait Ronnie, he doesn't look too friendly judging by the look in his eye, but I guess he must be to let you get so close! The herons over here are generally quite wary and fly off if you get too close with the exception of the one I sometimes see at Riverside Park in Gloucester
