The latest , then: the report did not have any success must be my internet speed they say. right? Yeah, right. only why is my browser at fault on chrome or anything else and why is itthat better at 6am British time! My suggestion: The administrators could do a clean out. All pages that have not been visited since more than 3 years, all users that had no activity whatsoever since more than 3 years -> one warning, then erase. Should speed things up a lot!

Thank you for all your kind words, all the messages and encouragement. You are right, how could I do without Jenn's tendrils, Joline's frames or Mick Bs rust, let alone all the new stuff I keep discovering. Think I'll simply post a bit more in the critique gallery, bit more different stuff.

One is still seeing this image as a conversation--
but able to enjoy the architecture because the conversion allows the building in recess and the people then taking center stage--- good thinking on your part!

I might have pushed the contrast just a tad--- (THen maybe not)

PS, I know a couple of other french words---
ha ha !

C'est toujours la cousine de la voisine. Ou bien la voisine de la cousine...
Nice. Yes Jenn's right, a bit more depth to the shadows and midtones, a bit more contrast. But the important thing is that you've allowed them space, we can see but we're not really intruding. You've allowed space above, which is nice with that crumbling doorway. My instinct with street photography is usually to allow space in breadth, landscape just seems to convey atmosphere, but that's a matter of taste. Either way, just stand back and don't push the lens too far into the conversation.
You're branching out... Smile

Can't top Jenn's and Moira's pertinent comments, Annette: a fine candid shot into which one could read so many different scenarios.

Révelée: la France éternelle.

I have driven many hundreds of miles round Alsace, Burgundy, the Massif Central, with my ears full of the same conversation between the same two older French ladies on the seat behind me. Without the words themselves being totally distinct the meaning and character are the essence of 'un certain âge'; the urban 'patrimoine' behind them is unmistakable too.
Perhaps I could add to Jennnn's and Moira's technical crit, but that would be to push a point. This is just so right.

Regards
Bill

Have observed this type of scene so many times over the years and passed on by - you did the right thing and recorded it. The b/w conversion is ideal.

I produced a mod, before reading the comments, in which I have pushed the contrast. I leave you to judge whether it is an improvement but the original is a fine example of excellent well observed candid photography.

Well done Annette. A delightful shot of these two old biddies putting the world to rights in the time honoured fashion. I would have thought perhaps a tad more contrast but its stil a lovely street scene.GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinSmileSmileSmileTongueTongue

I'm torn between V1 & 3 as a favourite, but I like Alberts's mod too. Oh what the hell, I like them all and even though they are all from the same starter image, they all have a slightly different story to tell.

You're testing the old school French today!
Well observed conversation between the two ladies, one out for the ' le pain de matin' perhaps
and the other with her portfolio of complaints to the council on some serious matter????
I think your mono is very good in V1 and V2 - V3 is too dark in parts for me.
The doorway, clothing and basket all excellent for a convertion.

Sounds like a good solution Annette,to post images in the critique gallery for your ''serious'' comments on your images.
So glad you are sticking around here so I can continue to comment on your images in my usual manner.
As for this one here.
I doubt they are discussing what kind of night they had with their boyfriends the previous night,
but more likely cursing their sons for their suggestion that they should be put in an old folks home !!

Annette - don't get too fussed about epz! I had the same problem some time ago and it was my computer's fault in the end. epz kept crashing and was incredibly slow. In the end we took it to MacMan and they suggested we bought some extra RAM - and guess what? It worked! We haven't looked back. Our internet speed is back. Have you/can you do the same? You might be surprised.... Smile
Ann
By the way - a very interesting candid... Smile
