I used a soft infra red on this as a "trying out b/w modes" as I've not really done much in monochrome! Let me know what you think and thanks for any comments.
Have a good weekend!
Like the conversion Maggie, raw nature.
Un blanco y negro muy bien logrado..
A lovely image Maggie - I think you have captured the essence well of what you wanted to convey
Very gentle - this certainly doesn't jump out as IR. I love the graininess, it suggests an alien environment.
Strong grain was my first thought, then I saw the grain as blizzard snow, but doesn't look IR at all. The image certainly fits with your title.
I'd be tempted both to bringten this (snow is white, even when the light is dim - does that make sense? This may have been how it was, but it probably looked brighter...), and to sharpen it (so that the snowflakes and noise look like old-school grain).
But I tend to do that sort of thing...
I like the falling snow and the hazy background. A simple shot but very attractive.
I'd lift the whites a bit Maggie but the noise is fine and it's a great image of winter.
What a wonderful image, I must agree the whites are grey and this is a problem with snow but it is easily solved. Like most people I assume you use a photo editor program, in there is an adjustment called levels this allows the exposure to be manually adjusted and its also lets you set balance levels for white, grey and black (these are usually like eyedroppers) and by selecting one and clicking on the image a white, grey or black balance is established.
I wish this had been set for modifications as I'd really like to show you the difference this can make to an image like this.
