The Great Spotted Woodpecker (dendrocopus major)
Had a stroke of luck with this beautiful GSW and managed to bag him in my back garden. Normally only a very rare visitor. Looks a deal smarter than my previous Woody.
Many appreciative thanks for the very generous c/c's given to the Mistle Thrush.

Ron

I love it when the woodpeckers come back to the garden. We usually have a pair and sometimes they bring their offspring to the feeder. I even had a regular visitor from a pileated woodpecker at my compost pile this summer. Unfortunately, I never could get a photo of him.
Excellent shot.

Good detail captured despite what looks like awkward lighting, Ron.

Fine looking Woody in classic pose, Ron. Interesting to see how these birds balance themselves with the tail firmly pressed against the perch - this illustrates it so well.

Excellent capture for the garden Ron and very well exposed. Just one little niggle my eye draws towards the cut off piece which shows signs of 3 pieces of content aware or cloning

A cracking capture Ron, he certainly is a handsome chap. He's obviously a great deal smarter than that other woody you caught on camera as he's escaped your long lens up until today!Wink
