These cute fellas have been very conspicuous by their absence this year, but I did manage to find this rather unusual coloured one in the long grass during the spring.

For those who are not aware, 'the Clangers' was a children's TV programme in the 70's. These little weevils always reminde me of the clangers!

Well, the clangers were pink, and so I think your clever little weevil is trying to become even more like a clanger.
Following on from Albert's comment, I wonder what insect might resemble the iron chicken??
