Nice bright summer scene. I did a quick mod in Photoshop camera raw, boosting the contrast, highlights, shadows, clarity and vibrance. I cropped it slightly from the right, which I feel balances the image. Hope you like it.

Hi Mark,

Good use of the track leading you into the image, well done.

Mark with a lot of summer shots the background can appear a little soft/hazey, which is how it looks to the eye, You can make a very easy adjustment to give it a bit more definition if you wish. First make a copy then using your quick selection tool select the background from the start of the yellow rape seed to the top of the sky then go top "Select" > "Modify" and expand the selction by around 1 px, then refine the edge using feather set to around 4.2px just to blend it in. Next go into "Levels" and very slightly move your black and midtone pointer's to the right (left and middle ones). This should only alter the selected area.

This is the only adjustment made in the mod.

Take care

Martin

Hi Mark,

A really nice image, I feel the composition could be changed slightly I have aligned the top of the rape field with the thirds line and moved the first tree in the group to a thirds intersection. I have also cloned the dead looking tree from the image as it seemed distracting to me. Some levels changes have been made but hey are not that apparent on the upload.

I like this and see what attracted you. The lead-in line is excellent. I tend not to worry about the rule of thirds (or ROT as some call it...) as rules are made to be broken. I don't have a problem with the compostion here and would not crop off anything. But of course these are personal preferences. The other thing I noticed is that the foreground greens look rather "processed" and not entirely natural - though the stalks in the shade would indeed pick up the blue from the sky. However, I would urge you to get up quite a bit earlier and catch the really low angled light. Oh and make sure you fill in the forms for wispy clouds early in the morning to catch the dawn pinks Smile The plain blue sky doesn't add anything so well done for keeping it to a minimum.

. . . a kindred spirit!

To be honest, I'm not sure that you can do much about the haze. The image is in two parts and I'm a little surprised that there's such definition between the two.
You could select the whole of the top half and try to inject some life into it but, looking at the mods., you're just going to end up with a bright yellow stripe across your image. There's no detail to be found in the rape field.
I'd be inclined to go back to the original (AWR?) file and see if there's anything you can do with that.
Sorry if that all seems a bit negative but I really don't think that this is going to work.

Bren.

Do you have a copy of the original image, before tone mapping? If so, could you upload it as a modification?

Its difficult to comment comprehensively on an image that has been subjected to tone mapping, so would like to see what you started out with.

thanks

Willie

Your flair for composition seems instinctive. Like it a lot.
