Took this image last year with a compact. I like it but I was wondering what more experienced people have to say.

I have found that some of my best work was done on compacts when I didn't have to consider anything but the composition. I think on this shot the composistion is spot on, I like the effect- well spotted

I like this a lot. It's almost mono as it is, but would look great as a mono shot with the contrast tweaked up a bit.
Composition is spot on.
I agree about compact cameras. It's not the camera, its what you do with it.
I live near Durham, but have never been to the Cathedral, so I must go.

Well done.

Can't fault the composition. Agree with Richard about the mono, would look really dramatic in b/w with high contrast....

Lovely light and shadows. Would like to see this at the full, permissable 500 pixel width. Click

I would just like to thank you all for your comments thus far. They have given me belief! The comments and the fact i have just returned from visiting Joe Cornish's gallery has really motivated me. Thanks again. PS I converted the image to mono and you were correct, it's quite dramatic.

I've been here on numerous occasions and had never thought to use the shadows of the archs. You have made good use of them, well done. The only way that you could / maybe improve it , next time take somebody with you with a red jumper sit them on one of the seats about a third of the way in from the left. Keep up the good work .

One of my all time favourite places.
Whenever things got too much for me I'd head to the cathederal, never failed to uplift me.
