Up close and very personal with the male Lacky Moth, part of the Eggar (Lasiocampidae) family of moths. Males always have the feathered antennae for detecting female pheromones, but are unable to feed as adults, which make them quite short lived. Wingspan is up to 45mm in the males, with the females being slightly smaller up to about 32mm. Found throughout the Southern half of the UK. Caterpillars are very colourful and sometimes quite hairy, these can irritate some people, so you've been warned!
Four images of the same moth V1 is a full frame stack of 70+ images, processed using Zerene and PS. V2 is a crop of the same image and was taken using Canon's MP-E 65mm macro lens.
V3 & 4 show the same moth full sized using the Tamron 90mm Macro, just before it was released back in to the wild alive and well and desperate to find a mate I've no doubt. ![]()
Many thanks to Snappit & Johnjo58's UA's on yesterdays Herald moth shot.......Here's hoping you all enjoy these 4 images as much.....Apologies for not being about as much as normal, I will try and catch up at the w/e.

That's the plan mate, although I hear they've had some really bad flash floods down at Shepton Mallet today, but hopefully this won't impact on me in anyway.......Still I've put the rubber dinghy in the car just in case! The forecast is good though so keep those fingers crossed for us!
