Thanks.. I have not edited the skin tone, it was originally there..those beggars use black shoe polish in their skins to make themselves look horrible..

I think it's in the settings at upload, maybe you just need to make sure it's unchecked next upload. Great character portrait with loads of crisp detail making the most of all his weathered face and attire have to offer.

I think this is a superb portrait, everything is spot on apart from one tiny little thing. I wish I could see the bottom of his beard, I don't know why but it draws my eye to the bottom of the image. Other than that it is brilliant.

Don't know if you can enable voting now, if not its a pity because this is a cracking portrait and I'm sure that it would attract quite a few votes.

Good details and tones in the face and light the use of mono for the background.

No voting is permitted within this gallery. You need to be in the General one for votes but they don't always help as pals vote for pals etc. This is the best gallery to be in as there is plenty of good advice available to you. You of course headed this pic with a request for critique, you should not get critique in the general gallery just praise.

This is a nice portrait and I presume that you used a tripod even though you have not mentioned it. I presume because otherwise I would have expected to see a shutter speed of minimum 1/300sec and actually nearer to 1/450sec to be comensurate with your focal length. I understand that this guy has rubbed in black shoe polish into his skin to give you the odd, but pleasing effect. Overall a nice picture.

Thanks Mr Frank for the compliment...
I should mention that this is a pure hand held shot, actually where I was standing was a big crowd, no chance to use any tripod. I took 10-12 shots and this one came out best. What ever you have said that I should have used 1/300 to get a sharp image was absolutely correct, but as you can see this was shot in misty Jan morning (7:30am) here in west bengal. I was not intended to raise the ISO any more to get a fast shutter. But I should confess that I do not have a very steady hand, but this one and some other bird snaps came acceptable at this shutter speed.

If I want voting, may I upload a fresh image tomorrow? in that case do I need to delete this image?

Thanks again to all for all these complements....

A really first rate portrait. The noise is insignificant. I would suggest NOT to remove colour from any of the shot. Reload it tomorrow, and click the Allow Voting and Awards box, and not the Critique box.

By uploading to the Critique Gallery, voting is automatically disabled.
In the Photography Gallery you can receive votes, but you don't necessarily receive critique.
If you upload this into the Photography Gallery, you don't have to delete it from the Critique Gallery. Of course, the decision is yours, but you will lose all the valuable comments that you have received here.
Pamela.

Very very good indeed. A superb well composed image.

What bothers me, once more, here, are all the comments. Why don't some of you bother to comment on other images that need help? It seems dozens of people are willing to say, excellent, and so they should, but are not prepared to give a constructive comment on images where that comment might help the author improve.

Getting a lot of praise is nice, but please, give some comment on other images too.
